From the front page of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune: Abuses of the elder guardianship system documented in recent Herald-Tribune articles are prompting local court officials to consider creating a new oversight position. Walt Smith, the court administrator for Florida’s 12th Judicial Circuit covering Sarasota, Manatee and Desoto counties, and incoming chief Judge Charles Williams proposed a plan Wednesday to hire a monitor who would investigate complaints about guardians. Florida Gov. Rick Scott vetoed the $750,000.00 appropriation going to Lutheran Services Florida.
