June 15: World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

In 2011, through Resolution 66/127, the United Nations declared June 15th to be World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.  This year, on June 15th many organizations around the globe are commemorating this day.

United Nations:

At United Nations headquarters in NYC there will be a presentation, “Elder abuse vs. violence against older persons: what are the differences and what are the solutions?” Organized by the Group of Friends for Older Persons (GoFOP) In commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Monday, June 15, 2015 – 1:15pm to 2:30pm, Conference Room 11- United Nations Headquarters, New York City.

At United Nations headquarters in NYC Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea commemorates WEAAD2015 with a memorial concert of the Grey Youth Choir Monday, 15 June 2015, 6:30pm, UN ECOSOC Chamber, United Nations Headquarters, New York City.

At United Nations headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland Side Event on “Falling Between the Cracks: Abuse and Violence against Older Women Marking World Elder Abuse Awareness Day – 10 years on” Monday, 15 June 2015, 12:00 to 2:00pm, Geneva, Palais des Nations. Organised by NGO Committee on Ageing, Geneva and OHCHR. Sponsored by UNFPA and the Permanent Missions of Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Israel, Mozambique, Slovenia, Spain and the United States of America.

Colorado:

On Friday, June 19th, AAAPG, along with Colorado-based coalition partners Coffer Group and FaceUs.org will conduct a public awareness and education seminar on how to avoid being a victim of elder abuse through court-ordered guardianship.

Delaware:

Delaware Department of Justice Commemorates World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15th with discussions, sponsored by the Delaware Department of Justice’s Senior Protection Initiative, will all take place on Monday, June 15, 2015, at the following times and locations:

Maryland: World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is June 15

Pennsylvania:

HARRISBURG, Pa., June 11, 2015 — To observe World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on Monday, Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Aging Teresa Osborne will be joined by Secretary of Banking and Securities Robin Wiessmann and others at an event in the East Wing Rotunda of the Pennsylvania State Capitol. Speakers will discuss the signs of elder abuse and how to report suspected abuse.

WHAT: With invited dignitaries and the public, Secretaries Osborne and Wiessmann and other aging advocates and leaders will make remarks.

WHEN: Monday, June 15, 2015; 11 a.m.
